Random Album

March 12th, 2009

Can’t normally be bothered with this sort of thing but I’ve seen quite a few of them lately and thought I’d give it a go…

1 – Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.

This is what I ended up with…

To be honest if I saw this in a record shop I’d assume it was some dull goth/shoegazer band that take themselves far too seriously. I definitely would not buy it. That said, it’s quite cool, no?

Drinking practice

March 11th, 2009

I was out for a few drinks with my old university crowd the other night. We’re a bit scattered these days – Australia, Dublin, Glasgow – exotic places like that.

Anyway, as the years progress so do our careers. Most of us are in positions of some responsibility these days. Some of us with kids. Basically, we’re all grown-ups these days.

Bearing that in mind it was interesting to see how the old student drinking mentality reasserted itself when we gathered again. The only problem we’re all woefully out of practice – cue much swaying, stumbling and slurring of ‘I love you guysssssss’ all round. There was a time when we’d have drank the same amount as an aperitif before the night began in earnest.

Mind you my ability to shrug off a hangover has also decreased significantly so the fact I can get bleezin’ on half a pint of Stella is probably a blessing in disguise.

jokio

December 19th, 2008

From the pages of Popbitch…

Yesterday evening, I had to change a lightbulb. A
bit later on, I crossed the road and walked into a
bar with an Englishman, Irishman and a Scotsman.

Then I realised my life was just one big joke.

What’s in a name?

December 17th, 2008

Interesting page on the General Register for Scotland website here listing the most popular forenames in Scotland for 2008. All the usual suspects are present along with flavour-of-the-month names like Jayden, Kayden, Summer, Kenzie, Amelie and Lexi(?).

Dig down the list a bit for the good stuff though…

A, Anakin, Django, Divine (for a boy), Elvis, Cheyenne, Cidney (only really funny if it’s pronounced Kidney), J, Jack-Daniel, McCoist, Neo, KC, Ozzy, Tin, Tiger, Tuba.

Not a single Shri in there though…

Mamma Mia!

December 17th, 2008

With the news that Mamma Mia! has just become the highest grossing film ever released in the UK (overtaking Titanic), I suppose it’s inevitable that conversations seem to involve Abba a lot more than usual these days.

The other day I was discussing favourite Abba songs with some friends and I mentioned one of my personal faves – ‘The day before you came’. I was met with blank stares all round. Ironic I suppose for a song that deals with someone trying to recall how their life was ‘the day before you came’ but failing to remember anything definite. Favourite line?

I’m sure I had my dinner watching something on TV
There’s not, I think, a single episode of Dallas that I didn’t see.

Sheer Poetry, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Fifteen minutes

December 15th, 2008

I’m really not sure how to write about myself on a more-or-less daily basis and make it interesting for anyone other than my mother to read so the plan is this:

1. I use the last fifteen minutes of the day to write about my experiences in the previous twenty-four hours.

2. If nothing particularly newsworthy happened I’ll just make it up.

Today I did a lot of work stuff and then wrestled a bull to the ground.

OK, sussed out how to edit a post. Now how do I create a new one?
